Mailing Update, Broken Mirrors for iPad

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

I got copies of Broken Mirrors this week (they look great), and have started mailing them to donors. Almost all the US books have been mailed (I have a handful I still need to drop off), but since I have to to go the post office to mail the international packages, those will go out early next week.

For those who donated enough to get postcards, I decided to include them in the book packages instead of sending them separately, so they don’t get as beat up in the mail, and will look nicer and be more legible. (Warning: Marla’s postcards can be… kinda mean.)

I sent out bookmarks and chapbooks over the past couple of weeks, so most of you should have received those by now.

Finally, you can now buy Broken Mirrors for the iPad!

Broken Mirrors for Sale in the Kindle Store

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

Broken Mirrors is now on sale for the Kindle! (And all those other devices that can read Kindle books. I’m working on other formats and venues. But it’s a start.)

Welcome New Readers!

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

Some new readers are arriving today — welcome! You can start reading the novel from the beginning with the table of contents up above, or read about the series and the reason I’m serializing this book via the links on the left.

Donations are especially welcome this month, since an expected (and long overdue) check for some other writing I’ve done is not actually arriving as promised, and I’m not sure when it will show up. This is tricky because I was counting on it to pay for my son’s health insurance and preschool tuition next month, so my financial outlook is suddenly a lot darker and more tempestuous.

I’ve been writing professionally for years — I understand the cash flow issues that publishers sometimes have, and I’m always willing to work with companies that owe me money, and I exhibit great patience. What I can’t stand is being lied to, and promised a check, only to have the promise retracted. That stings a bit.

So, if you find my work worthy, and you can spare a little, do please donate. You get goodies, as detailed in the sidebar!

Edited to add: My agent did some chasing, and got the overdue check overnighted to her… and the publisher even paid another big chunk of money that wasn’t due for a couple more months. So all is well!

Ten More Days for Tuckerizations

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

I got a $300 donation today (which is awesome; I can buy groceries now! yay!), and at that level, donors get to have a mutually agreed-upon name of their choice included in the text of the novel. (Mostly they become character names, but sometimes they become other things.)

But time is running out for that particular prize. I’m planning to send the finished text of the novel to the publisher for the print edition later this month, and after that happens, I can’t put in any more names!

So here’s a deadline: any donations of $300 or more received by July 15 can still get names into the text. (I’ve got a few characters who are unnamed, or who have names I can change, just for that eventuality.) After July 15, I can’t guarantee that any new names will make it into the text. Though, ahem, I’ll still gladly take your money…

Authorial Blathering Intact

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Many of you seemed to enjoy the “authorial blather” behind-the-scenes musings I included in my serialization of Bone Shop last year, so I’m going to continue the tradition with Broken Mirrors. This time, though, I’m not going to make separate posts for those author notes, which tend to be short, anyway — I’ll just include them in the comment thread for each chapter. Probably as the first comment, unless some of you are REALLY quick to post…

Look for chapter one on Monday, by 9 a.m. Pacific time. It involves jailbreaks, face-punching, verbal cruelty, and Ominous Hints of Things to Come.

Broken Mirrors is Coming

Friday, February 26th, 2010

The serial will begin on the morning of March 8, 2010. I’ll post a new chapter each week until the book is done (probably 20-25 chapters). Then the book will appear in print form, various e-book formats (Kindle, PDF, probably others) for those who prefer the all-at-once experience.
